The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His bond-servants, the things which must soon take place; and He sent and communicated it by His angel to His bond-servant John....This revelation [apokalupsis] is "about" Jesus rather than "from" Jesus. The genitive in the Greek hints at this. Also, I think it should be noted that John uses both His earthly name and His title name. This likely encapsulates His humanity and divinity and who He is and what He's done.
John uses "bond-servants" [doulos] or "slaves" to remind those in the seven churches that the way they live in the last days should be as contrite servants and not prideful heirs, especially in the midst of persecution [1.9].
"Must" [dei] is small, but significant. It is a reminder of God's absolute control over future events before the return of His Son.
The words "to show" [deiknumi] and "communicated" [semaino] are both words that imply more than mere description. They suggest demonstration, indication, and the use of pictures and/or symbols [even in 1.20 John begins to explain some of his imagery]. No one should take this and interpret Revelation to mean whatever was on CNN last night, but should seek to understand why OT prophets/writers used the symbols they did and further, why John picks up on them here in the Apocalypse.

Hello Jim,
Here's some help understanding the symbology of these ancient texts? The time for the removal of ignorance has arrived !! Hence the Mystery of God is being finished.
This missive strays a little from your specific points, but I think you'll see the relevance...
The very concept of the so-called Christ and Antichrist dichotomy is a deceptive false-prophecy logic-trap. The Essenes and others were not Greek, they were radical Hebrews who opposed the Greek speaking Roman invaders (a.k.a. Gog and Magog). Christ is a Greek term, and the name Jesus is properly "translated" as Joshua in all other instances...
Furthermore, I have proven decisively that the seven candlesticks are the Seven Spirits of God, not seven churches. The entire concept of churches is a Roman deception !!!
Likewise, Revelation never mentions the so-called antichrist. The beast and dragon symbols refer to empires and empires as false gods, not to any individual. It is all symbology and symbols abstract broad concepts, groups, and their deeds and character over symbolized spans of time.
Even the symbols for me refer to my many lifetimes. Why symbolize someone from so many directions and then put a literal name in as well? This is proof of Roman (Vatican/Papacy) false prophecy. The seven stars in my right hand symbolize the 11th through 17th 360-year cycles on the Hebrew calendar. The 11th cycle (same as Joseph's eleven stars...) was the second temple period and the 17th cycle began in 2001/5761 (actually September 2000).
On the other hand, Nostradamus' three antichrists are purposefully playing off of Christian false prophecy and misconceptions. His three (Nay Pau Loron (Napolean), Hister (Hitler), and Mabus (Master Bush - aka "little w.")) are all leaders of imperial nations, hence "beasts" and "dragons." They simply serve as the most apt and recognizable symbols of their nations' imperial periods. Notice when you remove the letters Mabus from Master Bush, you are left with h-ster. This is no mere coincidence.
Keep watching my blogs and websites in the upcoming days and weeks. This is about to blowback in the face of Christianity in a very big and ugly way !!!
Here is Wisdom
Peace...
